Documentary
A television documentary series about the
expedition and The British Museum's research project is being planned by an
independent production company, who are talking to potential international
broadcasters. A documentary is envisaged which would follow the
building of the ship and the progress of the journey, to focus on the
extraordinary achievements of the Phoenicians. A promotional clip for
this production has been filmed for presentation to the major broadcasters.
The
British Museum
The expedition team is in direct consultation
with Jonathan Tubb from the Department of Ancient Near East at the British
Museum, who is planning to complete a major three year research project into
Phoenician culture. The Phoenician Ship Expedition will play a key
role in the investigation of ancient trade and voyaging, providing practical
data on the sailing performance, speeds and endurance of the traditional
construction materials used in the building of the ship.
| 'The Phoenician Ship Expedition
is a very exciting project. The building of the ship and the
voyage around Africa will create a global interest in the Phoenician
culture and history. I wish Philip and his team every success in
organising the expedition and the recreation of one of history's great
voyages of exploration. I am confident that their endeavours
will prove to be successful, and will make a major contribution to our
understanding of these fascinating people.'

Expedition
artists
We have sourced established
artists to collaborate in the role of 'expedition artist' Through
their individual media (including charcoal sketching, oil on canvas and
photography), these artists will document the expedition as well as the
places and people that the crew encounters. This unique collection of
artwork will be shown at exhibitions en-route and will provide the basis for
a beautiful hard back book and other printed media to be published following
the completion of the expedition.
